About
My Life, My Interests and My Hobbies
My current pleasures in life are my travels and my family.
I have always enjoyed travel - learning about foreign lands and different
cultures and exploring wildlife. Especially, I enjoy the adventure of exploring
lands not yet on the tourist trail. I have a goal of 100 countries before I die,
but in reality I hope it will be many more! I record much of my travel on
novatravels.net.
My most precious memories are of 24 hour sunlight at the pristine North
Pole, penguins in Antarctica, traditional Bhutan, the devastation of trees in
Easter Island, lemurs and politically torn Madagascar, emerging Myanmar
(Burma), paradise at Tsarabanjina Island, Bora Bora and SW Mauritius,
wildlife in Tanzania, and the happy, subsistence living people in various parts
of the world, such as the south seas islands, Papua New Guinea and several
African countries.
I devote much time to Rotary, which is a very worthwhile organisation and it
gives me a great sense of worth that I can give something back to the
community and help those in need both locally and internationally, whether
that be with donations or giving my time.
My working life has always been challenging with long work hours. I started
my first business at the age of 19 in the print and advertising industry then
at the age of 33. I moved into the computer industry forming a software
company and a computer retail shop that also managed company network
installations. In 1995 I founded one of the early Internet Service Providers –
the fourth in the UK and in early 1997 I co-founded a company that created
one of the earliest web-based web authoring systems that enabled people to
create their own professional websites without needing any design,
authoring or even computing skills. Having sold all my IT businesses by 2013,
I now work part-time for a graphics and photo editing software company.
As a single parent, I raised 2 wonderful children and now have a young
grand-daughter and grand-son whom I see regularly.
My Mottos throughout life:
I have received many accolades throuighout my career and my
main motto has always been – ‘where there’s a will there’s a
way’.
My work life is to ‘seize the opportunities, persevere, keep
focused and motivated’.
For travel - ‘The World is a book and those who do not travel
read only one page’.
